17-day Discover Australia, from only £2,745pp

Day 1: Depart UK

This morning we set off from either London Heathrow or Manchester Airport on-board Etihad Airways. Choose whichever airport is most convenient for you and it won’t cost you a penny more.
In-flight meals and drinks included

Day 2: Brisbane, 3 nights

After a short break to your journey in Abu Dhabi to change aircraft, we will continue to Brisbane where our Tour Manager will be waiting to take us to the Next Hotel, Brisbane. Here we will spend our first three nights in Australia.
In-flight meals and drinks included

Day 3: Brisbane

A city sightseeing tour of Brisbane takes us to the blooming Botanic Gardens, scenic Fortitude Valley and to Kangaroo Point Cliffs where we’ll have uninterrupted and unrivalled city views, so be sure to have cameras at the ready. We have a choice in the afternoon to enjoy a cruise along Brisbane River to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in the afternoon (at an additional cost) where there is a chance to hold one of these unique marsupials. Or you may prefer to further explore the city at your leisure.
Breakfast included

Day 4: Brisbane Freedom Day

It’s our first Freedom Day in Australia, where we can choose to relax or explore as we please. If you would like to explore further, simply speak to your Distant Journeys Tour Manager who’ll be able to make any arrangements, book excursions or offer some great suggestions too. Perhaps you’d like to explore the Sunshine Coast’s Hinterland, home to pretty Montville, Mary Cairncross Rainforest Reserve and Australia Zoo, made famous by Steve Irwin.
Breakfast included

Day 5: Cairns, 4 nights

This afternoon we return to Brisbane Airport and travel to our next stop in Cairns. The Novotel Oasis Hotel, with its great central location, is where we’ll check in and spend the next four nights.
Breakfast included

Day 6: Cairns Freedom Day

The Great Barrier Reef: coral, exotic marine life and paradise-like lagoons make this World Heritage Site unmissable. And you have plenty of time to explore it all during an optional excursion on your Freedom Day. With five hours at the reef, you can hop on a high-speed catamaran and cruise to the Marine World platform on the Outer Reef; swim among the marine life by snorkelling in the sheltered coral lagoon; or simply relax and take in the beauty of the reef from the semi-submersible reef viewer, glass-bottomed boat, or underwater observatory. Plus once you’re there, activities like scuba diving, a guided snorkel safari with a marine biologist, and a helicopter flight for a breathtaking bird’s eye view, are all available at an extra cost.

With limited spaces on this excursion to the Great Barrier Reef, we recommend booking at the earliest opportunity. Plus, book more than 60 days before you depart and save 5% on the normal price.
Breakfast included

Day 7: Cairns Freedom Day

Another Freedom Day to spend as you please in tropical Queensland. Maybe you’d like to join us on an optional trip to Kuranda where you’ll experience traditional Tjapukai aboriginal culture and enjoy music, dance and storytelling performances that truly bring the tour to life? Aboard the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway you’ll soar over the rainforest canopy looking out onto spectacular views. In Kuranda village, you can visit the markets or Koala Gardens. And just like your journey to the village on the Skyrail was a fantastic part of the trip, your journey back to Cairns on the the Kuranda Scenic Railway is too a memorable way to experience the tropical Rainforest.
Breakfast included

Day 8: Cairns Freedom Day

A day trip to the Daintree Rainforest is a great way to spend our final Freedom Day in Cairns. The tour takes us deep into the world’s oldest rainforest to see the World Heritage listed Cape Tribulation. Alternatively, if you prefer to have a more relaxing day, you have your pick of museums, art galleries, cafes, bars, restaurants and more to explore in Cairns.
Breakfast included

Day 9: Sydney, 3 nights

Sydney is our next stop, so this morning we’re off to Cairns Airport to catch our flight. We’ll tick some of Sydney’s must-see sights off on tomorrow’s sightseeing tour, but once we’re settled in at the Holiday Inn Darling Harbour, we can start to explore our surroundings. Enjoy a stroll along the sparkling harbour, grab a bite to eat at any of its many loved restaurants and cafes, enjoy a little retail therapy or simply take in the city’s sights at our leisure.
Breakfast included

Day 10: Sydney

Get ready to be under Sydney’s spell on this morning’s magical sightseeing tour. We swap chic city vibes for golden sand as we set off to Bondi Beach – a sun seeker’s paradise. The beauty of Rushcutters Bay and Double Bay is also on the itinerary, before a trip to Hyde Park and Parliament House. And of course, no good tour of Sydney would pass by the world-famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge – iconic landmarks you’ll want to capture on camera. Now you’ve seen what makes Sydney so special, why not spend the afternoon relaxing on an optional lunch cruise around the harbour with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge as your backdrop?
Breakfast included

Day 11: Sydney Freedom Day

If you haven’t planned anything in particular for your Freedom Day in Sydney, we have a trip we think you’ll love. The World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains is an exciting contrast to the city experience, and is native Australian bushland at its best! Think gum trees and gorges, towering peaks and rugged rocks, and you’re part way to picturing the spectacle of the mountains. You’ll get to enjoy incredible views from lookouts such as Echo Point – a prime position to spot the Three Sisters rock formation. Plus Wentworth Falls and a stop off in Leura village are also on the agenda if this is how you choose to spend your day.
Breakfast included

Day 12: Uluru (Ayers Rock), Overnight

Yet another of Australia’s icons will be ticked off our list today, because after breakfast we fly to Uluru (Ayers Rock) in Australia’s Red Centre. After a tour to see the series of rounded sandstone domes known as the Olgas, we’ll be guided around Uluru’s base, learning why it has such deep cultural significance to the Aboriginal communities of the Northern Territory. And what better way to round off a fantastic day in the Red Centre than sipping a glass of sparkling wine while witnessing the changing colours of Uluru as the sun begins to set. The Outback Pioneer Hotel, situated within Ayers Rock Resort, is where we’ll rest after a day you’ll never forget.
Breakfast included

Day 13: Melbourne, 3 nights

If you thought Uluru was magical at sunset, you won’t want to miss it at sunrise. We’ll have the option to get up nice and early to see the view if we so desire. After breakfast we’ll be setting off to fly to our final stop – Melbourne. Here we’ll stay at the Parkview Hotel, located between Albert and Fawkner Parks, and only a short tram ride from the city’s centre.
Breakfast included

Day 14: Melbourne

With so much history to uncover and landmarks to discover, our carefully put together city tour will encapsulate everything that makes Melbourne one of Australia’s favourite destinations. From its public buildings’ beautifully preserved Victorian architecture and the bustling Victoria Markets, to famous Federation Square and the relaxing waterside suburb of Port Melbourne and St Kilda. In the afternoon you have the chance to see something quite remarkable – the Penguin Parade. Join us on a trip to Phillip Island and we’ll introduce you to the world’s largest colony of fairy penguins.
Breakfast included

Day 15: Melbourne Freedom Day

Melbourne is yours to explore today. Why not join us as we take to the Great Ocean Road? As we set off on one of the world’s most spectacular coastal drives, you’ll see real Australian beauty at its finest. Or if a trip to the mountains is more to your taste, board the Puffing Billy steam train and journey through the incredible landscapes of the Blue Dandenong Ranges.
Breakfast included

Day 16: Depart Melbourne

This morning brings our Australian experience to a close with time to spend in our final destination as we please. Cases packed and with plenty of memories to bring back, we’ll be setting off on our journey home to our chosen UK airport via Abu Dhabi.
Breakfast, in-flight meals and drinks included

Day 17: Arrive UK

Welcome home! Our morning arrival at London Heathrow or Manchester Airport will give us the rest of the day to recuperate or tell others all about our amazing holiday down under.
In-flight meals and drinks included
